Abstract

This paper focused on the effect of teamwork on the performance of teachers in Kajiado County, Kenya in the private primary schools. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of teamwork on teacher performance of private primary schools in Kajiado County, Kenya. The study was based on Social Exchange Theory and adopted a descriptive survey design among 5,937 employees in 521 registered primary schools. A sample of 217 respondents was used by means of stratified random sampling with a response rate of 97.6%. The structured questionnaires as the data collection method were analyzed in SPSS. The researchers concluded that teamwork positively and statistically significantly impacted teacher performance (R2=0.260, b=0.466, p<0.05) and accounted 26 percent of the variance in school performance. Analysis of correlation showed that there was a moderate positive correlation between teamwork and performance (r=.509, p<0.05). Descriptive data indicated that teamwork variables such as communication, support and cooperation, trust and mutual respect, and team cohesion were moderately exercised in the schools with the mean score of 3.83. The research found that teacher performance in a primary school is highly promoted by an effective team work in a private school. The study recommends that the school management should adopt organized team-building exercises and enhance the internal communication channels and establish collaborative structures.
