Abstract

To enhance performance, organizations must implement effective transportation management, as it is widely regarded as essential for business success. This review aimed to evaluate transportation management and its impact on the performance of dairy firms in Kiambu County. The study was grounded in stakeholder theory, value chain theory, Resource Dependence Theory (RDT), and relationship marketing theory. A descriptive survey research design was employed, with a target population of 1,067 respondents from 19 dairy firms in Kiambu County registered and licensed by the Kenya Dairy Board. A stratified sampling technique was used to select a sample of 291 respondents. Data collection involved the use of structured questionnaires for primary data, while secondary data came from published reports and documents of the selected firms. The questionnaire's validity was assessed through content and face validity, and reliability was tested using the Cronbach Alpha test to ensure internal consistency. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data was evaluated through thematic analysis. The findings indicated a statistically significant relationship between transportation management and the performance of dairy firms in Kiambu County (p=0.000<0.05). The review concludes that effective transportation management improves the performance of dairy firms in terms of sales volume, market share, and Return on Equity (ROE). The study recommends that dairy firms enhance their transportation management to boost overall performance.
