EFFECT OF EMPOWERMENT AND CREATIVITY ON LEADERSHIP PERFORMANCE IN PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOL INSTITUTIONS AT THE CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI

Abstract

Leadership performance in private secondary schools is greatly influenced by the mental health of the school leaders. The main purpose of this study was to examine how empowerment and creativity can affect school leaders' performance. This research was conducted using a pragmatic research philosophy and descriptive research methods. The target population constituted of 234 participants from  twenty six  private secondary schools in the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. The sample size of 180 respondents was arrived at using a purposeful selection to provide accurate and adequately generalisable results. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that a unit change in empowerment (β=0.598) and creativity (β=0.874) leads to significant changes in school leaders’ performance in private secondary schools in the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. The study concluded that empowerment and creativity had a significantly affected the performance of school leaderships in private secondary school institutions in the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. The study recommends that there is need for boards of management to actively promote a culture of shared leadership and collaborative decision-making within the private secondary schools in Nairobi.
