Abstract

This report assessed the impact of modern project management methods on the socio-economic development of Maasai women artisans through the Ushanga Kenya Initiative in Kajiado West, Kenya. The study focused on how resource management, technology integration, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems, and stakeholder engagement influenced income generation and professional independence. The research utilized Resource-Based View (RBV), Program Theory, Diffusion of Innovations Theory, and Stakeholder Theory to examine the effectiveness of various project management strategies on project success and sustainability. The study targeted 265 participants, including Maasai women artisans, project managers, and community leaders, chosen through simple random sampling. Data collection involved standardized questionnaires and interviews. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 26, applying descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis, while thematic analysis was conducted on interview data. The findings indicated that resource allocation (mean = 4.2), M&E practices (mean = 4.0-4.3), technology integration (mean = 4.0-4.2), and stakeholder engagement (mean = 4.0-4.1) significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of Maasai women artisans. The study concluded that effective resource distribution, strong M&E systems, improved digital literacy, and inclusive stakeholder involvement are crucial for the success of development programs. Recommendations include improving resource equity, enhancing M&E feedback mechanisms, and providing more technological support and training for participants. These specific actions can improve the sustainability and impact of the Ushanga Kenya Initiative.
